The Hispanic Scholarship Fund
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is one of the more well-known scholarships for Hispanics and has helped the Hispanic community by awarding over $300 million in scholarships since 1975. The goal of this organization is that in the near future every Hispanic household will have at least one college graduate.
The HSF is not just one scholarship but a program that offers many different kinds of scholarships for Hispanics including those that are geared towards graduates and those that are geared towards undergraduates. Each has its own requirements and deadlines for applications.
The HSF General College Scholarships
The general scholarship offered by the HSF award from $1000-$5000 and is available to graduating high school seniors, community college students, undergrad students and graduate students. To be eligible for this scholarship these other requirements -
- You must be of Hispanic lineage
- You must be a US citizen or have permanent resident status
- You must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher
- You must have plans to enroll full-time for 2 to 4 years in a degree program
- You must apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
- You must be going for your first undergraduate or graduate degree
The HSF Telemundo Scholarship
This is another of the scholarships for Hispanics offered by the HSF and awards $1500-$5000 to students who have a permanent address in the greater San Francisco Bay area. The requirements are generally the same as the HSF Gen. College Scholarship however there are a few additional requirements -
- You must have a permanent address in the metropolitan area of the San Francisco Bay Area
- You must attend the can Hispanic Business Salute which takes place in San Francisco every year
The HSF MassMutual Multicultural Scholarship Program
This scholarship is sponsored by MassMutual, the HSF, the UNCF and the Asian and Pacific Islander College Scholarship Fund. In 2011 MassMutual plans on giving out over $135,000 in scholarships to minorities. While this doesn’t apply strictly to Hispanics you can still apply and benefit from these scholarships. Most of the requirements are similar to the HSF General Scholarships however there are some added stipulations -
- You must be of African-American, Asian, Pacific Islander, or Hispanic descent
- You must be entering your sophomore, junior, or senior year at a college or university or be entering your second or third year at a community college
- You must demonstrate leadership skills and participation in extracurricular activities
- You must have an interest in insurance or financial services careers
In addition to these requirements you must also reside in or have a permanent address in one the following areas –
